How it all started!!
Cricket is almost a religion in India. We all know how it is played and all but how did it start in india is what i am going to tell you in my first ever blog.
It goes way back in 18th century when englishmen played cricket in India which is no surprise. First cricket match was played in 1721 by the British. For many years though Indians didn't accept this game. It was only in 1848 that a parsi community made a cricket club in Bombay (now Mumbai). This where cricket was started in India.
In 1877 England cricket team invited parsi team for a match. Slowly and steadily many more teams were created on the basis of religion like hindu, muslim and sikh. These four teams then started a quadruple tournament.
Maharaja Bhupinder Singh(from Patiala,Punjab) played a huge role for cricket in India and had his own cricket team called as Patiala XI. He took his team to England for a few games on his own personal expense. They played a few games against England's county sides. Still india was yet to play an international match which was then played in 1932. Although India lost the match but they became 6th country to play Cricket at an international level.
